I suffered from unrelenting acne throughout middle school. I had painful and inflamed pimples constantly invading my T-zone (forehead, nose and chin).
Because I had a lot of redness associated with my acne breakouts, I was recommended by a family friend to use oatmeal. I mixed ground oats with warm water and applied it on my face for 20 minutes at a time.
Eventually, I noticed my skin grew less red and became smoother and more supple.
Oatmeal, as it turns out, possesses powerful anti-inflammatory properties that relieve irritated skin. Rolled oats are also quite absorbent, so they facilitate oil absorption and help with oily facial complexions. Saponins, which are a cleansing agent, are also found in oatmeal and help remove dirt and grime from your pores. Who knew?
For those who also suffer from redness and inflammation associated with acne, here is an easy, all-natural mask recipe. On top of ground rolled oats, the recipe includes:
- Honey, for antibacterial properties that fight acne and leave your skin glowing;
- Lemon, to fade dark spots and lighten acne scars;
- Tea tree oil, for its antiseptic properties
#1- Grind 2 tablespoons of rolled oats in a spice grinder.
#2- Mix 1 teaspoon lemon juice, 2 tablespoons honey, and 4-5 drops tea tree oil in with the oats.
#3 – Apply to face, starting with the nose and going outward. Leave mask on for 20 minutes.
#4 – Remove mask with cold water.
#5 – Store in an airtight container and refrigerate.
