Many blame makeup itself as the root cause of their breakouts, but little do they know that the devil might actually be hiding in their brushes and sponges.
By the devil, I mean bacteria, dead skin cells and old makeup residue. These things can clog your pores and result in acne.
We should be cleaning our makeup applicators once to twice a week… That’s often.
Unfortunately, cosmetic brush cleaners aren’t all that cheap, and they run out pretty fast. That’s why I’m sharing with you a cost-effective, efficient, and natural (bonus!) cosmetic brush cleaner recipe. It’s fast and easy to make as it only contains 2 ingredients: Soap and coconut oil. The coconut oil acts like a conditioner; it hydrates the brush bristles and prevent drying out. Here is our DIY 2-ingredient natural makeup brush cleaner:
What you’ll need:
- Castile soap (or gentle antibacterial dish soap)
- Melted coconut oil
- A small dish in which to mix both ingredients
Mix the soap with the coconut oil and dip your brushes in one by one. Twist them and dab them around in the solution. Next, run the brushes under water and blot them in tissue. Repeat the cleaning process if residue still appears on the tissue. Once clean, it is recommended to hang the brushes upside down to preserve the upright direction of the bristles.
Many cleaners use alcohol, or even tea tree oil. The problem with that is the risk of permanently drying out your brush bristles.
I hope you enjoy this DIY!
