Feeling stressed lately? Or simply just worn out? Perhaps the solution is having a better sleep at night.

There’s lots of factors that can affect a good night’s sleep, like pressure from work, family responsibilities and any challenges that life presents.

The practice of implementing essential oils for better sleep has been practice among many cultures.

Here are 5 essential oils to help you sleep better at night:

Lavender

Known for its sleep-inducing properties, lavender produces one of the most popular forms of essential oils. Great ways to use lavender as an essential oil include: massage oils, candles, sleep masks and infused bed pillows.

Roman Chamomile

This essential oil has a very soft floral aroma, and does wonders for relaxation. Some ways of reaping its benefits include using in a diffuser, or a few drops to the bottom of your feet before bed. Adding a bit of this oil to your shampoo, or skin moisturizer helps as well.

Cedarwood

Besides being a good anti-inflammatory, cedarwood is also a relaxing oil. Its “woody” aroma makes you feel like you’re at the cottage. Cedarwood helps stimulate the pineal gland which releases melatonin – a necessity for sleep regulation. Use the oil in your diffuser or a couple of diluted drops on your forehead.

Orange

If you move a lot at night because of stress, orange essential oil can help decrease anxiety so you can sleep better. Most citrus oils have anti-depressing properties. Citrus oils can cause photo sensitivity when exposed to light, so it’s imperative to use this oil at night if you’re going to rub it on your skin. Place a couple of drops diluted in your diffuser or make a smoothing skin cream by mixing half a cup of coconut oil with a dozen drops of orange oil.

Valerian

Probably the most commonly used oil for sleep deprivation, valerian can help promote deep sleep. It has a calming effect and should be applied topically, to the bottom of your feet or inside of your wrists.
